VEXTEC's reliability-cost simulation to benefit Army's hybrid electric vehicle development program.

Company's unique simulation technology to drive cost-benefit impact decision making.

Brentwood, TN, May 06, 2009 - The U.S. Army has tasked VEXTEC with building a cost simulator for evaluation of "what-if" scenarios to be used as a basis for future design decisions. The simulator will be provided to the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Experimentation & Assessment (HEVEA) program team whose mission is to develop a vehicle with a futuristic design and a very high performance hybrid electric drive. The lack of in-service maintenance and cost data is a real world barrier to rapid new vehicle development. To that end, the Army Tank Automotive Research Development & Engineering Center (TARDEC) has recognized that VEXTEC's computational simulation can be used to fill in these "data gaps." This project integrates simulation characteristics for part cost, labor cost, downtime cost and logistics cost into its existing Army vehicle reliability simulator.

VEXTEC is actively working with several companies in the diesel engine and industrial equipment sector in the creation of Virtual Life Management (VLM) simulations of new components and systems that have not yet been built. Given today's computational processing capabilities and the rising costs of new product mock-ups and testing, these companies are taking advantage of the benefits of more in-depth virtual analysis.

"The capability to predict the reliability and cost as integrated metrics opens up an entirely new realm of analysis potential for those designing new products," said Carl Kolts, VEXTEC Vice-President of Sales and Business Development. "VEXTEC is impacting the manner in which future vehicles are developed and this Army contract will provide essential financial and performance forecasts engineers and management simply have not been able to get."

About VEXTEC

VEXTEC is the only company in the world that can accurately predict the performance, durability and true lifetime cost of a single component or an entire fleet-before they're ever built. Founded in 2000, VEXTEC has pioneered and patented innovations in material science and probability theory to form the foundation of its Virtual Life Management (VLM) technology. Manufacturing companies from such diverse industries as aerospace, heavy equipment, automotive, electronics and medical implants can all benefit from VEXTEC's unique ability to predict product life cycles and failure, and most importantly, their financial consequences To learn more, visit www.vextec.com.
